This is the Rangitata river valley. The little hill in the middle was the place of Edoras in the trilogy "The Lord of the Rings" films. The production was asked to completely return the place to its natural and original state after the shooting. It has been well done, at least from this distance, as nothing can tell there were several buildings there.
